Subject:  Earthquake Risk in the PNW

Speaker:  Mark R. Pierepiekarz 

Anyone who has been around the Seattle area for very long has hears it……..the big one is coming.  Mark will walk us through a quake that occurred in Mexico back in 2017 and how it impacted areas differently due to variations in construction, soil conditions, etc.  What are the vital variables to focus on during underwriting for both carriers and agents.  We will wrap up with discussion on rapid recovery of operations.

Mark Pierepiekarz, PE, SE, has over 30 years of professional experience focusing on structural and natural hazard engineering. He has consulted with a number of international organizations on managing their earthquake exposures. He is actively involved in the development of structural engineering technologies, codes, and standards. He was one of the lead authors of the “Seattle Fault Scenario” project. Mark currently serves as a Director of the Washington State Chapter of Earthquake Engineering Research Institute, with a goal toward achieving a more earthquake-resilient region.
